Seventh Ave. & 1st Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY
Starbucks in the back corner. 8:55 P.M.

Reading the "Rooms" section of Tender Buttons and during the Ray Manzarak organ solo of "Light My Fire" a stab of memory of a night or maybe day in Okinawa on Bron which was a cough syrup that contained codeine and God knows what else. Al and I were in a town in the northern part of the island not visited much by GIs. Or so it seemed to my occluded consciousness. I mean our eyes were open wide and forget about the domestication. Just like my mother, I cried.

All I want is some truth
Just gimme some truth

No short haired yellow bellied son of tricky dicky is gonna drive drunk for a year around Okinawa.

Last night, Ko. was working on writing her name in cursive script. We talked together some about war. I mentioned John Lennon and the song "Imagine".

Melting and not minding, safety and powder, a particular recollection and a sincere solitude all this makes a shunning so thorough and so unrepeated and surely if there is anything left it is a bone. [G. Stein, Tender Buttons p. 40.]

No short haired yellow bellied son of tricky dicky is gonna refuse to pee in the cup for no short haired yellow bellied son of tricky dicky. Neither in the Reiss Pavilion of St. Vincent's or Camp Pendleton of the U.S.M.C.

As I was saying sometimes it takes many years of hearing the repeating in one before the whole being is clear to the understanding of one who has it as a being to love repeating, to know that always every one is repeating the whole of them. [G. Stein, A Stein Reader ed. U. Dydo, p. 60.]

To begin again with: urinalysis refusing. As I have said it happens at Camp Pendleton. To inquire: is it spelled Pendelton or Pendleton? Manhatten or Manhattan? Rockafeller or Rockefelar or Rockefeller? As I was saying, disputing the reults of urinalysis at MCRD, San Diego, Calif. can happen. And when it does over and over again, they don't test for codeine or LSD. My eyes were open, as I was saying, domesticated and occluded. Gimme some truth at Special Courts Martial. Just gimme some truth. No short haired yellow bellied son of tricky dicky is gonna escape Fort Ord stockade, a big bag of bud was found in the trunk of the Toyota Celica. As I was saying I don't know what you're talking about. May I suggest LSD for clarity of mind during Arabic language instruction at the Defense Language Institute on the Presidio of Monterey, Calif. Just gimme some truth.

December 15, 2001; Seventh Ave. and 1st Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn, N.Y.
I got my haircut this afternoon. Went ice skating this morning with Ko. and Mo. We met An. and Ma. there. After the session we all went back to our house. Do. had made minestrone soup and we had lunch. Ch. nursed with Do. every once in a while.

I went to a salon on 5th Ave. across the street from Ozzie's. The same block as Cucina and Aunt Suzie's. First I peed, then a woman washed my hair, then a man (Daniel) cut my hair. Daniel learned how to cut hair from his father on live heads of hair. His father cut hair somewhere around Pittsburg. No blow dry, no lamp dry. I don't know what time it is. It is Friday evening. I have been thumbing through my address book contemplating writing a letter to someone even though I don't have anything to say to anyone.

Well it is now certainly twilight. Some time has passed since I started this page of journal entry. Passed reading Everybody's Autobiography by G.S.S. (i.e., G.S. I don't know what Gertrude Stein's middle initial is i.e. even if she has a middle initial.).

Celebrate Thanksgiving.
My grandmother, Jennie Louise Hall Nichols, died earlier this month, on Nov. 10. She was born on Nov. 7, 1909 in Key West, Florida, USA. She died and was interred in Edgewater, Florida. I flew down for the funeral which took place on Nov. 13. All seven of her grandchildren were in attendence (as well as her two children, my mother and uncle).

Lately I've been reading: Lessig, Lawrence, Code and Other Laws of Cyberspace and Singh, Simon, The Code Book: The Evolution of Secrecy from Mary Queen of Scots to Quantum Cryptography

1. Rode the spinning teacups ("Mad Hatter's Tea Party") at Disney World's Magic Kingdom theme park three times in one day.

2. Attended my 20 year high school reunion (New Smyrna Beach (Florida) Senior High School, class of 1980).

3. Became addicted to making trips to Wal-Mart. (We don't have Wal-Mart in New York City).

I'm planning to catch the 17:30 train back to New York City. D. and the girls will be staying here at my in-laws house for the coming week. I'll come back out on the train Friday night after work.

They all went to church this morning for Easter service. I don't do church, so I stayed at the house and fiddled around with my blogger template and read some weblogs.

I,

Here are a couple of sentences from what I read this morning on the subway. I'm formatting the text in more of a poetry-style. This is one approach I find helpful in reading Beckett. This is not the way Beckett published this text. From "Texts for Nothing 11":

We're getting on,
getting on,
and when come those who knew me,
quick quick,
it's as though,
no,
premature.

But peekaboo here I come again,
just when most needed,
like the square root of minus one,
having terminated my humanities,
this should be worth seeing,
the livid face stained with ink and jam,
caput mortuum of a studious youth,
ears akimbo,
eyes back to front,
the odd stray hair,
foaming at the mouth,
and chewing,
what is it chewing,
a gob,
a prayer,
a lesson,
a little of each,
. . .

We (D. (my wife), Do. (my MIL), A. (my FIL), K., M., C. (my daughters, 6 yrs, 3 yrs and 4 mos)) watched the St. Patrick's Day parade here in Montauk today. Many pipe bands and fire departments from all over eastern Long Island, etc. Lots of candy thrown from floats. And a Marine Corps color guard. I pointed out the Marines to K., telling her that I used to be one of them before she was born.

Do. and A. gave me a birthday present last night. A Yahtzee game. I scored a Yahtzee on my first turn in the first game I played with D. today.
